New Delhi, 11 July (IANS). A senior government official said on Friday that under the ‘Developed India’ vision, India’s urban population is estimated to increase by about 88 crores by 2047. He emphasized that urbanization is not a challenge, but an opportunity to convert our cities into a vibrant and sustainable hub of development.
According to Durga Shankar Mishra, former Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Real Estate currently contributes about 13 percent to the Indian economy, with the affordable housing and development sector growing at a rate of about 10 percent, which makes it one of the most influential engines of national development.
Addressing the Assocham Real Estate Conference in the national capital, Mishra emphasized that urbanization is not a challenge.
Gurjit Singh Dhillon, Director (Amrit), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, discussed the transformational goals of Amrit Mission in detail.
Dhillon said, “The priority of the Amrit Mission has always been a transformational change in urban infrastructure, which should be based on sustainability, inclusiveness and long-term service delivery.”
He further said, “We are not only building infrastructure; we are enabled to become an engine of economic development and social equality. Through strategic intervention in water supply, hygiene, green places and mobility, this mission aims to improve the quality of life of all urban inhabitants, especially the deprived.”
NITI Aayog chief Economic Advisor Anna Roy said that our goal is to ensure overall economic progress, from enabling strong digital public infrastructure to promote green changes and urban innovation.
“Transit-oriented Development (TOD), municipal finance reforms and capacity building at the ground level are important for creating sustainable, living urban ecosystems,” Roy said, “Roy said.
India’s real estate sector will provide employment to millions of people in both formal and informal sectors in the future.
Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal, president of the National Real Estate, Housing and Urban Development Council of Assocham, said, “In addition, the region has become a major assistant in urban changes, development of infrastructure and new era.”
