New Delhi, May 28 (IANS). The country’s largest airline IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) announced on Wednesday that the budget will operate 18 flights to more than 15 cities from the first day of the commencement of commercial operations at the Budget Airline Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
Both companies said in a shared statement that the number of 18 flights (36 air traffic movements) per day will reach 79 flights (158 air traffic movements) per day, including 14 internationals by November 2025.
After this, the number of flights is expected to reach 100 (200 air traffic movements) per day by March 2026. By November 2026, the number of flights will reach 140 (280 air traffic movements) per day.
IndiGo CEO Peter Albers said, “IndiGo will be the first airline to operate from NMIA and we are very happy to announce. This expansion shows our commitment to meet the growing needs of our ambitious travelers and contribute to the growth of India’s rapidly growing aviation sector.”
AAHL CEO Arun Bansal said, “We are happy to announce that IndiGo is the first airline to start operations with NMIA. This partnership is a big step towards confirming the NMIA status as a transfer hub for domestic and international passengers. We are ready to change the travel experiences and national options for millions of passengers and we are ready to change their travel experiences and national options. The statement further stated that the NMIA is going to become the major international aviation center of India, which will provide state -of -the -art facilities, the best passenger experience in the category and uninterrupted connectivity. With its strategic location and advanced infrastructure, NMIA will play an important role in increasing India’s global air travel network.
In the initial phase, NMIA will have a capacity of 2 crore passengers per year to their destination and 0.5 million metric tons (MMT) cargo. Once it is complete, its capacity will increase to 9 crore passengers and 3.2 MMT cargo per year.
