New Delhi, 1 June (IANS). Indigo, the country’s largest airline company, announced an agreement with Airbus, a aircraft manufacturing company on Sunday. Under this, 30 aircraft have been converted into pucca orders out of the purchase-rights of 70 aircraft.
This is another step towards defining the airline’s long -term plans for international expansion.
IndiGo CEO Peter Albers said in a briefing in the national capital that the company is making a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900. He said that out of the option of 70 aircraft, now the company is now ordering 30 aircraft.
Last year, IndiGo decided to include widebody aircraft in its fleet by making a firm order for 30 A350-900 aircraft. In addition, the purchase-rights of 70 additional aircraft were also taken. The original order delivery is expected to begin in 2027.
The CEO of Indigo said that the company would continue to include an aircraft per week to double the size of its fleet by the end of this decade.
The move will help IndiGo further expand its international long -range networks, allowing Indian metros to different parts of the world.
IndiGo said in its statement that this would provide more options for customers to travel to new international places as well as more flights to the hubs of partner airlines.
IndiGo’s Airbus A350-900 aircraft will have a Trent XWB engine of Rolls Royce.
At a time when the company is stepping into the next stage of its magnificent journey to meet the rapidly changing needs of the Indian market, the mission capacity of the aircraft and the efficiency of the Trent XWB engine will provide unprecedented options and access to IndiGo.
IndiGo began preparations for their long-distance flights in March 2025 and included six rented wide-bodies aircraft for which delivery would be completed by 2026.
The airline is operating more than 2,200 flights per day with a fleet of over 400 aircraft.
