Industrial production grew by 4.8 per cent in July

New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANS) The country’s industrial output grew by 4.8 per cent in July, driven by a robust rise in power generation along with manufacturing, compared to 4.7 per cent in June.

According to data released by the Union Statistics Ministry on Thursday, the growth rate of the mining sector in July was 3.7 percent, manufacturing 4.6 percent and electricity 7.9 percent.

The manufacturing sector has the highest weightage of 77.63 percent in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).

The best-performing sub-sectors in the manufacturing sector included basic metals (6.4 per cent), coke and refined petroleum products (6.9 per cent), and electrical equipment (28.3 per cent).

On the basis of consumption, the growth rate of primary products was 5.9 percent, capital goods 12 percent, intermediate goods 6.8 percent, infrastructure and construction sector goods 4.9 percent and durable consumer products 8.2 percent.

Production in the non-durable consumer goods category declined by 4.4 per cent.
