The prices of essential commodities will not increase in the upcoming festive season. That is, inflation will not increase. The government says that the prices of sugar, edible oil and other essential commodities are stable. There is no possibility of a rise in prices during the festive season starting next month. Along with this, the government has also announced to increase the allocation of wheat to the beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in October. Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said on Wednesday that the government is able to maintain prices at a reasonable level for consumers.
The upcoming festival season will be good. There is no expectation of any rise in the prices of essential commodities. Referring to the prices of edible oil, he said that there is a softening trend in the prices of oil. The prices of edible oil are lower than in September last year.
The increased allocation of wheat will continue
Referring to the allocation of additional wheat under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Sanjeev Chopra said a committee of ministers has approved an additional 35 lakh tonnes of wheat. He said the increased allocation will continue till 2025. This will potentially try to restore the wheat-rice ratio under the scheme.
Government gave instructions to edible oil companies
Referring to the edible oil stock, the Food Secretary said that 1.3 million tonnes of edible oil imported at zero duty is still in stock. The industry has been instructed to sell this stock at the current prices until it is exhausted. He said that even after the stock is exhausted, the price will not increase with the increase in duty because international prices have come down. He expressed confidence that the prices of edible oils will remain stable during the festival season.
