New Delhi, December 20 (IANS). The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry on Friday said investment in the urban sector in the country has increased 16 times under the government’s target of ‘Developed India’ by 2047.
According to data provided by 100 Smart Cities, work orders have been issued for 8,066 projects worth Rs 1,64,669 crore under the Smart Cities Mission (SCM), of which 7,352 projects worth Rs 1,47,366 crore have been awarded. (91 percent of total projects) have been completed.
Under the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, in the last 6 months (from June 9, 2024), the government has given solid waste and used water management, Over Rs 1,123 crore has been released for Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and capacity building projects.
According to the ministry, major achievements under the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme include creation of 4,649 megaliter per day (MLD) water treatment capacity and 4,429 MLD sewage treatment capacity.
The ministry further said that under ‘AMRUT 2.0’, the government is giving priority to rain water drainage systems to deal with the challenges of waterlogging. Also, continuous efforts are being made to improve drinking water availability and sewerage systems.
A new rental housing vertical has been introduced under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0, which will benefit the migrant population, working women, industrial workers, the homeless, students and other beneficiaries.
“In-principle approval has been given for more than 6 lakh houses under PMAY-U 2.0, this is a significant achievement in the implementation of the scheme,” the ministry said.
According to the government, a new National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) will soon be launched based on the results of a pilot project currently running in 25 cities, including industrial hubs and migrant hubs. The Mission envisages covering approximately 2.5 crore urban poor families for socio-economic upliftment.
