New Delhi, May 28 (IANS). Along with furthering its manufacturing plans in India, there has been a 76 percent increase in iPhone exports to the US in April in April. This information has been given in a recent new report.
According to the latest estimates from market research firm Omdia, about 3 million ‘India -made’ iPhones were sent to the US in April.
In comparison, the iPhone shipment from China has recorded a huge decline of 76 percent and it is only 9,00,000 units.
According to a CNBC report, this is the first time India has continuously left China behind in the supply of iPhone in the US market.
The report quoted Omdia’s research manager Le Zhuan Chiu as saying, “Apple was preparing for such business obstacles for many years. The fast tariff in April reflects strategic stockpiling before the increase.”
At present, the demand for iPhone in the US is about 20 million per quarter.
In the absence of a completely integrated supply chain in the country, the ‘Made in US’ Apple iPhone can cost $ 3,500 (more than Rs 2,98,000).
Global Head Dan Evece of Technology Research in Vedbash Securities recently told CNN that the idea of fully domestic iPhone production is a ‘fictional story’.
Ewes also warned that repeating Apple’s complex Asian supply chain in the US in the US will increase the cost greatly.
According to market experts, Apple will cost at least three years and $ 30 billion to shift only 10 percent of its supply chain to the US.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said during the company’s latest quarter earning call that the “most” part of the iPhone sent to the US for the June quarter would come from India.
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 50 percent tax on all goods imported from the European Union, as well as threatened to impose 25 percent tariff on Apple products if the iPhone is not in the US.
However, according to knowledgeable sources, India’s ability to compete makes it an attractive option for technical giants like Apple. Apple has assured the government to manufacture its products and promote ‘Make in India’ initiative.
In recent years, India has become an important center of Apple’s global supply chain.
