The time is going on to file income tax return (ITR) for the financial year 2024-25. During this time, many taxpayers have reported errors in the annual information details (AIS). In view of this, the Income Tax Department has issued guidelines giving clarification on this.

AIS is a very important document. This is a description that includes all the necessary information under the Income Tax Act, 1961. In this form, information related to taxpayers is in two parts. The first part has general information like name, date of birth, PAN card number, Aadhaar card number, mobile number, email ID, address etc. If there is a company instead of a person, his name, installation time, registration number etc.
The second part records complete financial transactions.
The second part of the form contains all financial transactions of taxpayers such as bank interest, dividend income, mutual funds, real estate transactions and foreign income. If there is any discrepancy in the AIS and ITR filed by you, you may have a delay in getting notice, penalty or refund, so tax experts recommend that ITR submit it to confirm this with Form 26AS and AIS before depositing ITR.
Update AIS like this
Many taxpayers have recorded information about duplicate entries, wrong income or wrong transactions in AIS. To solve this problem, the Income Tax Department has simplified the feedback process on AIS. If you see an incorrect or incomplete entry on AIS, first log in to the Income Tax e-Filing portal. Then go to the AIS section and click on the wrong entry.
Choose the correct reason using the ‘alternative’ or ‘Add feedback’ option, such as the amount is wrong or it is not my transaction. Submit your feedback now. AIS is updated when the feedback is found valid. You can check the position of your feedback using the portal whether it is rejected or accepted.
