If you travel by train and are troubled by the fee cut on ticket cancellation repeatedly, then this news is for you. Actually, Indian Railway Waiting ticket is preparing to remove the clerk’s fee on cancellation (Indian Railways Updates). The Railways has taken this decision after complaints of passengers and pressure from the public.
IRCTC used to cut tickets on book-skills. So far, a fee of Rs 30 to 60 per passenger is charged for cancellation of online waiting tickets. This fee in sleeper class can be Rs 60 and third, second or more than Rs 60 in first class. Last year, many passengers complained to IRCTC against this fee on social media. After which the issue reached the top officials of the railway. However, a railway official said that this proposal is currently under discussion in the ministry.
On cancellation, there was a separate deduction, so far the fee was charged for canceling tickets on the online portal of IRCTC. On canceling waiting tickets, the remaining amount is returned after deducting the ticket price, but the clerk’s fee is deducted separately. Which is planning to end the railway, so that the passengers get relief. An IRCTC official said that if this fee is removed, the entire amount can be returned on cancellation. However, a little fee will still be deducted.
Railways earns good from ticket cancellation
Indian Railways earns well from ticket cancellation. In response to an RTI last year, it was told that the Railways earned Rs 6,000 crore from ticket cancellation. At the same time, in FY 2023, the total earnings of Railways were Rs 2.7 lakh crore. In which passenger and freight were increased. The number of passengers increased by 6 percent and freight by Rs 735 crore. Now this move of the railway will benefit the passengers, especially those who cancel the ticket often. If this policy is implemented then the refund process will become easier. However, no official announcement has been made yet.
