New Delhi, 19 June (IANS). Prior to Adaji, there were only a few select business groups in India, who realized the dream of the country to make indigenous products in front of the British. One of them was Kirloskar Group.
Currently, one of the major business groups in India was founded by Laxmanrao Kashinath Kirloskar, who was born on 20 June 1,869 in a small village in Maharashtra in Gurlasura.
Laxmanrao Kirloskar did not mind reading since childhood. However, he was very interested in machines, due to which he learned mechanical drawing from JJ School of Art in Mumbai. He later got a teacher’s job at Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute in Mumbai.
Due to the information of machines, he along with his brother Ramuyanna, in 1888, opened a bicycle shop called ‘Kirloskar Brothers’. This started the journey of Kirloskar Group.
Laxmanrao Kirloskar always believed that agricultural equipment should be suited to the environment in which they are used. With this idea, he made India’s first iron solution, which was also the first product of the Kirloskar Group.
In the early days, Lakshmanrao had to face opposition from the farmers over the plow, as believed that the iron plow would make the land poisonous and make it barren. In such a situation, it was very difficult to convince the farmers, but in front of Laxmanrao’s determination, the superstitions of the farmers kneeled and after two years they succeeded in selling their first iron plow.
Later, this solution became a symbol of agricultural revolution in India.
After Jamshedpur, India’s second industrial township Kirloskarwadi was also established by Laxmanrao Kirloskar.
In fact, in January 1910, the municipality of Belgaum ordered Laxmanrao to vacate Belgaum to make a new suburb. At that time he faced a lot of struggle for the place, but later the king of Andh gave a loan of ten thousand rupees to Laxmanrao near a famous railway station called Kundal Road to increase industrialization in his kingdom. This place became the address of the new factory of Kirloskarwadi and Kirloskar Brothers. After this, Kirloskar never looked back.
The Kirloskar Group is one of the country’s big business groups today. Today Kirloskar group does engineering and manufacturing of pump, engine, valve and compressor.
