Mumbai, March 6 (IANS). The ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Central Government has got another success. Legendary tech company Lenovo has announced a plan to create a Personal Computer (PC) model in India in the next three years.
The company aims to achieve 100 percent local production for its PC business, including AI-managed PC, under its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
This announcement has been made by Lenovo on the completion of 20 years of the company in India.
Shailendra Katial, Managing Director of Lenovo India, said that at present 30 percent of the company’s PC sales in the country is produced locally.
He further said, “This figure can reach 50 percent next year and 100 percent in the next three years.”
Katial also stated that Lenovo’s first AI-operated server will begin to be built in his India’s manufacturing hub on 1 April.
His statement was made in Mumbai in ‘Lenovo Tekworld India 2025’ in Mumbai.
In September last year, Lenovo launched a manufacturing plant in Puducherry, in which around 50,000 enterprise AI servers and 2,400 high-level graphics processing units (GPU) can be constructed.
The company is expanding its research and development capacity in the country. The company plans to set up another R&D center in Bengaluru.
Matthew Jilinsky, president of Lenovo’s International Markets, highlighted India’s growing importance to the company and described it as “one of the most important markets in the world”.
Jilinski said, “Our manufacturing unit in India is not only building for India, but also establishing India as a big exporter.”
Lenovo is exporting Motorola smartphones from India to global markets and the company has said that all the phones of Motorola will now be produced in India.
