A crowd gathered on the banks of Sangam in Prayagraj on Monday on the occasion of Paush Purnima, the first bathing festival of Mahakumbh. About 1.65 crore people took a dip in the Sangam on the first day. The 45-day long Mahakumbh in Prayagraj will end on February 26, with around 40 crore devotees expected to take a dip in the Sangam. Although Kumbh is a confluence of faith, in which people from all over the world will take a dip, but this time Kumbh is going to be a confluence of business along with faith. This is because this time’s Kumbh has been estimated to generate a record business of Rs 2 lakh crore. The government is also expected to get revenue of around Rs 25 thousand crore from Kumbh. Estimated business to be more than Rs 2 lakh crore

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has estimated that this Mahakumbh is expected to generate business worth more than ₹2 lakh crore.

Key business figures of Mahakumbh 2025

Accommodation and Tourism: There is a business potential of ₹40,000 crore from local hotels, dharamshalas and temporary stay arrangements. Food and beverages: There will be trade worth up to ₹20,000 crore across packaged food items, water, biscuits, juices, and meals. The sale of puja materials and prasad: oil, lamps, Ganga water, idols, incense sticks, religious books etc. is expected to generate business worth ₹20,000 crore. Transport and Logistics: Local and interstate transport, freight and taxi services will generate business worth ₹10,000 crore. Tourism Services: Estimated business of ₹10,000 crore from tour guides, travel packages and tourist services. Handicrafts and souvenirs: ₹5,000 crore income from local products, clothing, jewelery and souvenirs. Health and medical services: ₹3,000 crore business from temporary medical camps, ayurvedic products and medicines. IT and digital services: ₹1,000 crore business from digital payments, Wi-Fi services, and e-ticketing. Entertainment and Media: Business worth ₹10,000 crore from advertising and promotional activities.

State government earns Rs 25,000 crore

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state officials estimate that Mahakumbh 2025 could increase government revenue by Rs 25,000 crore and result in economic benefits of Rs 2 trillion. This event is expected to generate bumper earnings for local self-help groups, artisans, hoteliers, restaurant operators and food vendors. Rs 3,000 crore is estimated to be spent by major brands like Dabur, Mother Dairy and ITC in this Maha Kumbh. Uttar Pradesh government and central government have spent about Rs 6,900 crore on Mahakumbh.
