New Delhi. Amidst the debate over working hours, Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy has now clarified his statement advising to work 70 hours. Narayana Murthy said that no one should be pressurized for work. That requires introspection. He said, I used to go to office at 6:30 in the morning and leave at 8:30 at night, this is a fact and I have done this for almost 40 years, so no one can say that it is not so or it is wrong. Although he called it his personal decision.

Speaking at the Kilachand Memorial Lecture in Mumbai, Narayana Murthy said, these are not issues that should be discussed and debated. It is important to understand the need for work. How much a person wants to progress in life, for this he has to work with determination. Work cannot be imposed on anyone. Let us tell you that in October 2023, Narayan Murthy had advised the youth to work 70 hours a week. After this he was criticized a lot. Even in December 2024, Narayana Murthy had said that to make the country number one, the youth will have to work hard and they will have to understand this.

After this, recently L&T Company Chairperson SS Subramanian talked about working 90 hours a week. Rather, he expressed regret that he is not able to get his employees to work on Sundays. During this, he also said that it is better to work in the office rather than staying at home on Sunday and staring at your wife. After this, along with common citizens, some big businessmen including Anand Mahindra, Adar Poonawala and many Bollywood celebrities also condemned Subramanian.
