Nitin Gadkari denied the report of toll on two-wheelers, said- no such decision is proposed

New Delhi, 26 June (IANS). Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday denied reports of toll on two -wheelers, saying no such decision is proposed.

The Union Minister wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Some media houses are spreading misleading news of toll tax on two -wheelers. No such decisions are proposed. There will be a complete discount on the toll of a two -wheeler. Without knowing the truth, it is not a symptom of healthy journalism.

In fact, media reports claimed that two -wheelers will also have to pay tax on all tolls of the national highway and this rule will be applicable from July 15.

The report further stated that two -wheelers will have to take a fastag like vehicles to pay the toll and the vehicle which will violate this rule will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000.

Earlier, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the annual fastag on 18 June. This announcement has been made by the government to reduce toll burden on private drivers.

Meanwhile, the Union Minister said, “Under a historical initiative, a fastag -based annual pass is being started from 15 August 2025 to Rs 3,000. This pass will remain valid for one year from the date of being active or up to 200 visits, which will be valid.”

From this annual pass, private drivers will get rid of repeated fastag recharge and they will be able to travel without any interruption.

According to the Union Minister, this annual pass has been specially designed for non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans etc.) and it will make a uninterrupted journey on national highways across the country. To renew the annual pass, soon a separate link will be provided on the highway travel app and the websites of NHAI / MORTH, which will make the process simple and easy.
