According to information received from sources by CNBC-TV 18, the government is avoiding giving a big blow to the citizens by simultaneously increasing the prices. This is the reason that the increase in prices will be gradual. Before Diwali, the prices of petrol and diesel were cut by the central government. Then later the prices were also reduced by the state governments. There was no change in the prices of petrol and diesel during the elections in five states. But now the prices are increasing once again.

Petrol hits ‘century’ in Delhi
The trend of increase in the price of petrol and diesel continued on Tuesday as well. With the further increase of 80 paise per liter in petrol, it has crossed Rs 100 a liter in most of the state capitals. At the same time, the price of diesel has been increased by 70 paise a liter. According to the price notification of public sector petroleum marketing companies, the price of petrol in the national capital Delhi has now increased from Rs 99.41 per liter to Rs 100.21 per liter and diesel from Rs 90.77 per liter to Rs 91.47 per liter. Petrol and diesel prices have increased across the country, but their prices vary from state to state depending on local taxes.
Petrol prices in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have already crossed Rs 100 per liter. In most of the state capitals, petrol has crossed the ‘century’ mark. Earlier, the price of petrol in the national capital Delhi had crossed Rs 100 a liter on July 7, 2021 and had reached an all-time high of Rs 110.04. Then on November 4, the Narendra Modi government had cut excise duty on vehicle fuel.
Petrol and diesel prices were raised on March 22 after remaining stable for a record 137 days. Prices have been increased for the seventh time since then. After this increase, the price of petrol in Mumbai reached Rs 115.04 a liter while in Chennai it reached Rs 105.94 and in Kolkata it reached Rs 109.68. At the same time, the price of diesel has reached Rs 99.25 a liter in Mumbai, Rs 96 in Chennai and Rs 94.62 a liter in Kolkata.
The highest fuel cost in the country is in Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. In this border district, the price of petrol has reached Rs 117.14 per liter while diesel has reached Rs 99.96 per litre. In addition to local taxes, the cost of freight is also affected by the cost of fuel. The price of crude oil was close to $112 a barrel on Tuesday.
