New Delhi, 12 June (IANS). Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Thursday that India’s oil and gas sector has expanded considerably in the last 11 years, including the manufacture of modern refineries and pipelines to securing stores and promoting clean fuel.
The Union Minister said, “India’s growth story led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been at the Infrastructure Center and these efforts in the petroleum and natural gas sector have strengthened the country’s energy security and laid the foundation of the self -sufficient future.”
Highlighting the achievements of petroleum and natural gas sector, Puri said that 23 modern refineries are now operating in the country, which have a total capacity of 257 million metric tonnes per year, producing petroleum products such as petrol, diesel, jet fuel and LPG.
Piped natural gas (PNG) infrastructure providing green cooking fuel for domestic kitchens in the country has now been expanded to 733 districts across the country.
Apart from this, compressed natural gas (CNG) is being made available to consumers at 8,000 retail stations across the country to fuel vehicles.
He further stated that 106 plants with a joint capacity of 625 TPD have been set up as a result of the Ministry’s Compressed Natural Gas (CBG) initiative.
The Union Minister said that Pudur’s storage capacity is 2.25 million metric tons (MMT), Visakhapatnam facility has a storage capacity of 1.33 MMT crude oil, while Mangalore has a storage capacity of 1.5 MMT.
Apart from this, another strategic reserve facility is being made in Chandikhol, which is on the beach.
He said that public sector oil marketing companies have set up six skill development institutes, which have been successful in providing skills to over 16,000 professionals so far.
