Mumbai, Sep 3 (IANS) The government-run Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is now clocking over 1.2 crore orders per month with over 6 lakh sellers live on the network, it said on Tuesday.
ONDC was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal under the category ‘Application of Emerging Technologies for Delivering Citizen-Centric Services’ at the National Awards for e-Governance (NAEG) at a function held here.
The network is empowering millions of small businesses, a diverse range of sellers including artisans, women entrepreneurs, farmers and street vendors to compete effectively and reach out to people.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, “ONDC operates with a startup mindset and a government-wide approach, adapting to the rapidly evolving market dynamics. It is led by a team of technocrats and an experienced ONDC Advisory Council.”
By virtue of being interoperable, unbundled, and decentralized, ONDC breaks down a complex system into separate microservices that can be offered by different people, with positive outcomes for everyone. ONDC architecture promotes trust in the e-commerce system.
ONDC is further expanding its capabilities for deeper and better integration with key government platforms.
“ONDC will enable inter-locking and linkages across government platforms to serve common set of beneficiaries to achieve integrated objectives,” the ministry said.
ONDC achieved 430,000 daily orders in July.
The network operates in over 609 cities and delivers to 1,200 towns across the country. In July, ONDC also launched the auto components and accessories category on the network.
ONDC recorded a 21 per cent month-on-month growth in July, reaching 12 million from 10 million in June. The network has also witnessed 374,000 order transactions in a single day on June 30 during the recently concluded T20 World Cup final.
