New Delhi, May 11 (IANS). Criticizing the loan given by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Pakistan, former United Nations Assistant General Secretary Laxmi M Puri said, “The world needs to understand that funding Pakistan is not to promote peace, but it is to promote terrorism.”
Laxmi Puri expressed grief in a note written on the social media platform X and said that from 1958 till date Pakistan has turned the IMF into a credit line for chaos. It will be used not for reforms or development, but to fund terrorist networks, to save global fugitives and support the army that arises on instability.
Asked questions, he said that Pakistan has violated every condition of democracy and IMF program and used bailout package to promote bloodshed. Still, the world is continuing to give checks to the terrorist country, why?
Laxmi Puri further said that Pakistan has borrowed 28 times since joining 1950. It is not financial aid, but it is geopolitical charity and strategic misuse of international goodwill.
India on Friday kept itself away from voting in a meeting to give a new IMF loan of $ 1.3 billion to Pakistan as part of the Receitation and Sustainability (RSF) loan program. In this meeting, Pakistan was approved for loan.
In the Executive Board of the IMF, the representative of India strongly opposed giving more financial assistance to Pakistan from the IMF and expressed serious concern over the previous record of Islamabad, saying that the country would use the cash received from the bailout to increase the cross -border terrorism.
He also said that Pakistan has been a debtor from IMF for a long time and its record of implementation and compliance of IMF is very poor.
