Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said that action will continue and will not be spared, while rejecting the opposition’s allegations of waiving the loan of people who fled to abroad by taking a bank loan of crores of rupees from Indian banks, that action will continue against such people and they will not be spared. He informed that assets worth Rs 749.83 crore have been seized in such cases. Finance Minister Sitharaman said this in response to the discussion on the banking methods (amendment) bill in the Rajya Sabha. He said that five laws will be amended through this bill. Following Sitharaman’s reply, the Upper House passed the Bill with soundly.

NPAs of banks decreased

The Finance Minister said that there was a lot of pressure on banks in 2014 and India was considered in five weak economy. He said that after this the government took several important measures to improve the condition of the bank. Sitharaman said that the gross non -executed assets (NPAs) of Scheduled Commercial Banks have come to a low of 2.5 percent in September 2024. He said that the condition of banks has improved significantly. He said that public banks made a profit of Rs 1.41 lakh crore in the last financial year, which is the biggest profit so far. He hoped that banks and height would touch in this financial year.

Government did not forgive the loan

He said that the Enforcement Directorate in the case of deliberately not paid loans has successfully provided property worth about Rs 22,280 crore to them on the order of the court. The Finance Minister said that nine people were declared a fugitive economic criminal in the case of people who fled with loans and assets worth Rs 749.83 crore were seized.

He said that the functioning of public banks has improved significantly and their gross NPA ratio has come down to 2.85 percent in December 2024, which had reached 14.58 percent in March 2018.
