New Delhi, 21 April (IANS). The second batch of batteries of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system has been sent to Philippines to promote India’s defense exports.
The first battery was sent by the Indian Air Force aircraft in April 2024, which was assisted by civil aircraft agencies. These consignments have been sent under the defense agreement between the two countries.
According to reports, this long -range flight with heavy load was about 6 hours without stopping, until the equipment arrived in the western part of the Philippines.
The deal was announced in January 2022 with the Philippines to supply the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.
The Philippines will get three batteries for the missile system, which has a range of 290 km and has a speed of 2.8 Mac (about 3,400 km, three times at the speed of sound). The BrahMos missile can be launched from submarine, ship, aircraft or ground.
According to Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, India aims to make a defense equipment worth Rs 3 lakh crore by the year 2029.
Defense production in India has increased from Rs 40,000 crore in the year 2014 to more than Rs 1.27 lakh crore.
According to the Union Minister, “This year is expected to cross the Rs 1.60 lakh crore of defense production, while our goal is to make a defense equipment of Rs 3 lakh crore by the year 2029.”
The country will reduce its dependence on imports and create a defense industrial complex that will not only meet India’s needs but will also strengthen the ability of defense exports.
The ‘Make in India’ program is not only strengthening the defense production of the country but is also helping to make the global defense supply chain strong and flexible.
India’s defense manufacturing capabilities are aimed at national security and strategic autonomy, as well as these abilities are also protecting ‘manufacturing’ from global supply shock.
India today stands shoulder to shoulder with developed countries in important areas such as missile technology (Agni, BrahMos), Sabmarin (INS Arihant) and aircraft carrier ships (INS Vikrant).
