Siemens has achieved an important and big project of design, engineering, manufacturing and maintenance from Indian Railways to 9000 Horse Power (HP). The Prime Minister on Monday inaugurated the country’s first 9000 horsepower locomotive engine, locomotive manufacturing plant and rolling stock workshop at Dahod at a cost of Rs 21,405 crore. Siemens said that Siemens factories in Nashik, Aurangabad and Mumbai are manufacturing important parts for this project, while the last parts are done in assembly, trial and commissioning work in Dahod. Sunil Mathur, CEO and managing director of Siemens Limited, said, “The introduction of these advanced engines is important to realize the aspiration of the Government of India, under which the railway share in freight transportation is to be increased from 27 percent to about 45 percent.”

90 percent technology has been made in India itself

With the green signal by PM Modi, this railway engine with 9000 horsepower has been included in the list of the world’s most powerful rail engines. “We have been able to build a world class plant with Indian Railways and about 90% technology for 9000 horsepower electric engines have been made in India,” Siemens said in a statement.
