Modi described steel as an emerging area and stated the need to increase its production, which is the backbone of development. He also asked to consider adopting new processes, innovating and reducing the import of coal. Modi said that a major concern is the protection of raw materials. We still depend on imports, cooking coal and imports for manganese. And that is why, we should strengthen global partnership, secure supply system and focus on upgrading technology.
Options such as better use of stores should also be explored

The country aims to increase steel production capacity to 30 million tonnes by 2030, which was 17.9 million tonnes in FY 2023-24. Also, the consumption of per capita steel is also targeted to increase from the present 98 kg to 160 kg in the same period.
New opportunities for steel sector

The increasing number of large projects will increase the demand for high level of steel.
