PM Modi wants India to move ahead at a fast pace in the semiconductor sector: Industry expert

Greater Noida, Sep 12 (IANS) Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of global industry association SEMI, on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for semiconductors is very clear. He wants to expand it at a faster pace for the development of humanity.

Manocha addressed the inaugural ceremony of the three-day ‘Semicon India 2024’. Talking to IANS, he said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is rapidly moving towards becoming a semiconductor leader.

PM Modi knows that semiconductors are the base of every device. He has seen how chips have helped in making the Covid vaccine. Once we start manufacturing chips in the country, it will help in the development of defence, automobile, mobile devices and other industries,” Manocha said on the second day of the event.

He said that Prime Minister Modi wants to see India among the top semiconductor countries.

“Prime Minister Modi is well aware of the importance of semiconductors. It is strategically important for the country. Ever since I met him, he has been constantly stressing on the development of semiconductors. When I met him for the third time on Wednesday, PM Modi said that he wanted to be even more aggressive in taking this journey forward,” Manocha told IANS.

Manocha said that a lot of work has been done on the chip manufacturing front in India.

He further said that foreign companies are now looking at India as the main supply chain for electronics and semiconductors. 100 CEOs and CXOs of industry and ecosystem companies have come to this event. Everyone is confident that together they will be able to make India Asia’s powerhouse in semiconductors.

He further said that ‘Semicon India 2024’ has proved that India can gain greater market share in the global semiconductor industry.
