New Delhi, October 4 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the three-day ‘Kautilya Economic Conference’ on Friday. Around 150 Indian and international academics and policy makers will discuss issues facing India and other countries in the global south.
An official statement said that the conference, organized by the ‘Institute of Economic Development’ in partnership with the Finance Ministry, will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Modi will participate in it at around 6.30 pm and will also address the attendees.
The third edition of the ‘Kautilya Economic Conference’ will be held from 4 to 6 October and this year its focus will be on reforming the international financial framework, financing for green transition, geo-economic fragmentation and implications for development, India and the middle income trap, Topics include jobs and skills, artificial intelligence and public policy design, and principles of policy action to maintain resilience.
Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will address the concluding session of the conference. Apart from this, Bhutan’s Finance Minister Lyonpo Leke Dorji, Prime Minister Modi’s Principal Secretary P.K. Mishra, Chairman Emeritus of the Center for Global Development Masud Ahmed, Chairman of the Liquidity and Sustainability Facility and Co-Chair of the High-level Panel on Finance for Climate Action Vera Songwe, Founding Chairman and Chief Executive of the Policy Research Institute (Bangladesh) Dr. Zaidi Sattar, Dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics, Peking University Justin Yifu Lin, Chief Economist of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Eric Bergloff, Secretary General of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council Eduardo Pedrosa, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Suman Berry, Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission Dr. Arvind Panagariya, World Bank’s Regional Vice President for South Asia Martin Reiser etc.
Let us tell you that the conference will also showcase India’s growing role as a bridge-builder between the countries of the Global South. The discussions at the conference will serve as a precursor to the upcoming annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, COP 29, and Brazil’s G20 Leaders’ Declaration.
