Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off six new Vande Bharat trains today on Sunday. These new trains will expand the rapidly growing fleet of this modern innovation from 54 train sets to 60, the Railway Ministry said in a statement issued on Saturday. These train sets will cover more than 280 districts in 24 states and union territories, making 120 trips on a daily basis. According to a release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Prime Minister Modi will visit Jharkhand today and will flag off six Vande Bharat trains at Tata Nagar Junction railway station at around 10 am. “The Vande Bharat portfolio is expanding, with new train services being added for better connectivity,” the statement said. It further said, “Indigenously designed under the Make in India initiative, these trains provide state-of-the-art facilities, benefiting millions of passengers.”

New Vande Bharat trains will run on these routes

These six new trains will run between Tatanagar-Patna, Brahmapur-Tatanagar, Rourkela-Howrah, Deoghar-Varanasi, Bhagalpur-Howrah and Gaya-Howrah.

It will be easier for pilgrims

These new Vande Bharat trains will help pilgrims reach religious places like Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Kalighat and Belur Math in Kolkata quickly. Apart from this, these trains will also boost the coal mining industry in Dhanbad, jute industry in Kolkata and iron and steel industry in Durgapur.

The first Vande Bharat arrived on February 15, 2019

The first Vande Bharat train was inaugurated on February 15, 2019. The Railway Ministry said that the train is capable of reaching speeds of 160 kmph, offering a unique travel experience to millions of passengers. The ministry said that Indian Railways, a pillar of India’s transport infrastructure, is experiencing a significant transformation with the expansion of the Vande Bharat train fleet. According to the Railway Ministry, as a flagship project of the ‘Make in India’ campaign, these semi-high speed trains symbolize India’s ambition to have a modern, efficient and world-class rail system. With the Vande Bharat Express, Indian Railways is set to redefine the passenger experience, offering unparalleled speed, safety and comfort.

Service provided to more than 3.17 crore passengers

The ministry said, “To date (September 14, 2024), with a fleet of 54 train sets (108 services), Vande Bharat has completed a total of about 36,000 journeys and has provided a great travel experience to over 3.17 crore passengers.” According to the statement, the original Vande Bharat train set has now evolved into Vande Bharat 2.0, which includes more advanced features including faster acceleration, armor, anti-virus system and WiFi. The ministry said, “With Vande Bharat Express train services, Indian Railways is on the path to revolutionize travel in India. These trains not only reflect the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative but also set new global standards for speed, safety and service. As India’s rail network continues to expand, passengers can look forward to a future that provides seamless, comfortable and efficient travel to meet the diverse needs of the country.”
