New Delhi, 5 July (IANS). PM Narendra Modi arrived at Argentina for a two -day visit on Saturday (Indian time). The Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with Argentine President Xavier Milei on July 5. Several important issues including defense manufacturing, space sector, information technology will be discussed between the two countries. Apart from this, PM will also address people of Indian origin.
In bilateral talks with PM Modi’s Argentina President Xavier, issues like defense, energy, agriculture, minerals, trade, protests, minerals and digital cooperation will be discussed. In addition to meeting with Prime Minister Argentina’s Business Minister, Foreign Minister and Energy Minister, I can compromise on issues like Lithium and Liquid Natural Gas Supply.
India’s Mineral Foreign India Limited (KABIL) has already gained the rights of excavation of lithium in the Catamarca province of Argentina. In such a situation, new announcements in this area are now expected.
On July 5, PM Modi will sign important agreements besides participating in the Indo-Argentina Business Summit 2025. In 2024, bilateral trade between Indo-Argentina has crossed $ 5.2 billion. India is the fourth largest business partner in Argentina.
So far, soybean has been trade on oil and agricultural products between the two countries, but India also wants to increase exports in areas such as IT, Healthtech and Pharma. At the same time, Argentina is showing interest in defense products like Tejas fighter aircraft of India.
PM Modi will discuss topics of economic and business interests to further strengthen bilateral relations. India’s progress in new areas such as defense manufacturing, space sector, information technology and DPI can provide valuable expertise. India’s expertise in telemedicine and digital healthcare solution is also a proposal in increasing access to medical service for Argentina and also to improve overall quality and cost -effective healthcare distribution.
India and Argentina also emphasize cooperation in peaceful nuclear programs and energy. Argentina supports India’s Nuclear Spliers Group (NSG) membership.
Argentina has about three thousand Indian migrants. PM Modi will also attend a cultural program with people of Indian origin. Indo-Argentina G20, G77 and United Nations are members.
Argentina is India’s strategic partner since 2019. The two countries celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations last year. The Prime Minister’s visit to Argentina is taking place at a significant time, as Argentina is currently going through the process of major economic reforms, which are largely similar to the reforms that India has passed before.
According to P. Kumaran, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi has previously traveled to Argentina for the G20 meeting in the year 2018, but this will be the first bilateral visit of an Indian Prime Minister in the last 57 years and hence it is historic.
