Argentina is India’s strategic partner since 2019. The two countries celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations last year. The Prime Minister’s visit to Argentina is taking place at a significant time, as Argentina is currently going through the process of major economic reforms, which are largely similar to the reforms that India has passed before.

According to P. Kumaran, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi has previously traveled to Argentina for the G20 meeting in the year 2018, but this will be the first bilateral visit of an Indian Prime Minister in the last 57 years and hence it is historic.
