There is a huge uproar over the water pollution of Yamuna and Ganga in the Mahakumbh region. While hearing the case on Wednesday, the NGT also took a tough stand. The NGT expressed dissatisfaction over the report submitted by UPPCB. Said that this entire report is misleading. The NGT has expressed displeasure over lack of information on many issues in the UPPCB report. However, UPPCB has sought a week’s time from the NGT to file a full report. Now the next hearing of the case will be on 28 February.
For this, the NGT has also asked the CPCP to come with full preparation. Let us tell you that during the Mahakumbh, on the orders of the NGT, the Central Pollution Control Board had taken samples of Ganga and Yamuna water from many places. The investigation report of this sample was laid on the table of the NGT on the last date. In this report, the CPCB has admitted that ‘the water quality of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers was not conforming to the primary water quality for bathing in the context of fecal coliforms on various occasions and at all monitoring sites.’
UPPCB gave old report
A large number of people bathed in these rivers during Mahakumbh. Due to this, the concentrations of waste water continued to increase. In this report, the CBCP said that samples were taken from a total of 73 different places between 9 and 21 January. No drinking water was found in any of these 73 places, leave the matter of bathing. After this report, the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board filed its report in the hearing held on Wednesday.
NGT expressed dissatisfaction over the report
In this report, UPPCB refused to accept the CPCB report. According to petitioner Saurabh Tiwari, this attitude of UPPCB created a strange situation before the main bench of the NGT. The NGT bench also looked at the UPPCB report carefully, but counted many shortcomings in it and said “Your report is misleading”. After this, UPPCB has sought a week from the NGT to remove these deficiencies and file a full report. He said that we have also conducted an inquiry from a separate agency and it will also be admitted on the next date.
The location of the sample is important.
During the hearing of the case, the NGT told UPPCB that your report is in January, while CPCB has submitted the latest report. Similarly, where you took the sample, the report also has great importance in the report. In this regard, environmentalist and long -working Professor BD Tripathi, who has been working on the Ganges, also said where the sample is being taken is important. Also, if the quality of water is so bad and not suitable for bathing, then why there is no news of devotees falling ill after bathing?
