Bhagwant Maan Sarkar of Punjab has solved a major problem for the people of the state by giving free electricity facility. The people of the state are getting 600 units free electricity. Punjab has electricity bill every two months. This bill of 90 percent of the people of the state is now getting zero. In this way, they are getting 300 units of electricity free every month. As soon as he came to the government in the year 2022, CM Bhagwant Mann announced that 300 units will be given electricity free. Now the question may come to the mind of the people that by giving free electricity, the power corporation of the state will be burdened with a huge burden or the power infrastructure would have collapsed. But the situation is completely opposite. The Punjab government is not only providing free electricity to the people, but is also strengthening power infrastructure.
Power transmission capacity increased
The Punjab government has increased the power transmission capacity significantly. The first transmission capacity in Punjab was 7,100 megavat, which has been increased to 9,800 MW. Earlier only 7,100 MW could come and go. Even though the state had electricity, the corporation could not supply it. Because the transmission capacity was low. Therefore it was necessary that the power transmission capacity be increased. Bhagwant Mann says that it has never been paid attention to it and his government did this.
Power sector made self -sufficient
Maan Sarkar has done the work of making the power sector self -sufficient in Punjab. The Punjab government has bought the Goind Power Plant owned by GVK power for Rs 1080 crore. Bhagwant Mann says, ‘Punjab is the only state in the whole country that bought a private thermal plant. Otherwise, governments are usually sold to government plants. There are currently 2 private thermal plants and 3 government thermal plants working in Punjab. These are being supplied uninterruptedly in the state.
Powercom paid more than fixed amount
This is the first time in the last 20 years when the Punjab government paid more than the fixed amount to Powercom in case of subsidy. In April last year, the Punjab government had to pay Rs 1751 crore as electricity subsidy, but the government already paid Powercom to Rs 1790.62 crore. Earlier, Powercom was always paid less than the fixed subsidy and Powercom always sent a letter to the Punjab government and asked to pay the subsidy.
Coal mine
Maan Sarkar also started a coal mine in Panchuwara, Jharkhand. The mine was closed for several decades. There will be no shortage of coal in Punjab for 30 years with the commencement of mining here. Please tell that the Panchuwara coal mine was allotted to the state, but it was closed since 2015. The previous governments did not pay any attention to restoring the supply of coal. The Maan Sarkar raised the matter as soon as he took power in March 2022 and restored the supply of coal by following the proper manner.
