Fog has affected the movement of trains for the past several days.
Dense fog amid severe winter has forced the speed of trains to be reduced. Hence, 27 trains are running late till 6 am on Friday. According to Indian Railways, these trains reaching the capital Delhi are running late by more than four and a half hours. In such a situation, railway passengers are facing inconvenience. Glimpse of improvement in train delays
Railway ticketing platform RailYatri said, based on data collected on its platform, that there was an 8 percent reduction in delays in passenger trains across the country in 2024. Average delay in Indian Railways passenger network to reduce from 20 minutes to 18 minutes in 2023. Although India’s flagship premium train Vande Bharat Express remained one of India’s most punctual trains, its average delay saw a 21 per cent increase compared to last year. According to the news of Business Standard, last year the train was delayed on an average by 17 minutes, whereas in 2024 its average delay will be 8 minutes.
Statistics show that passengers in many states have benefited from reduction in train delays. Commuters traveling in Uttarakhand, Punjab and Gujarat have reported significant improvement in punctuality. In the year 2024, delays have reduced from 16 percent to 32 percent.
