Good news for consumers who buy mobile, tablet. Soon they will know whether they will repair if they are spoiled after purchasing before purchasing any brand phone or tablet? If there is a repair, then what percentage of recover will be chances. In fact, a committee constituted by the government has recommended that companies making electronic equipment make the repair index in the product category on their products the repair index themselves, so that customers can get complete information about this. According to the suggestions of the committee, manufacturers will have to rating the equipment on this index. This will reveal how much it is likely to repair when the equipment is damaged. An official statement said on Saturday that the committee constituted for the repair capacity index in mobile and electronic sector has submitted its report to Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare. Consumers now face many problems in repairing smartphones and tablets.
Guidelines will be issued after investigation
Khare had earlier said that the ministry would investigate the recommendations and issue some guidelines accordingly. In September 2024, the Department of Consumer Affairs constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Additional Secretary Bharat Kheda. The committee said that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) would have to announce the repair capacity index based on standard marks criteria without any additional compliance burden.
QRR Code Must depict
In addition, the committee suggested that the repair capacity index should be shown as QR code on shops, e-commerce forums and products. The statement said that the recommendations of the committee have been prepared according to the best global practices without any obstacle in innovation and business ease in the industry.
