2000 rupee notes
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Tuesday that 98.21 percent notes of Rs 2000 have returned to the banking system. However, the public still has such notes worth Rs 6,366 crore. The Reserve Bank of India announced the withdrawal of bank notes worth Rs 2000 on May 19, 2023. RBI said that the total value of bank notes of 2000 rupees in circulation was Rs 3.56 lakh crore on the closure of business on May 19, 2023.
Now on March 31, 2025, their total value will be reduced to Rs 6,366 crore when trading is closed. RBI said in a statement, “Thus, 98.21 percent of the 2000 rupee bank notes, which have been in circulation till May 19, 2023, have returned.”
Was available in all bank branches by 2023
The facility of depositing and changing two thousand rupees bank notes was available in all bank branches by October 7, 2023. However, this facility is still available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank. Since October 9, 2023, RBI’s issue offices are also accepting 2000 rupee bank notes to deposit in their bank accounts from individuals and institutions. Apart from this, the common people can send a 2000 rupee note from any post office in the country to any RBI office to submit a 2000 rupee note to their bank account. Two thousand rupee notes will remain valid currency.
