'Rising Northeast Investors Summit' will serve as the power of development for the Northeast: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

New Delhi, 23 May (IANS). Union port, ship transport and waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Friday that the ‘Rising Northeast Investors Summit’ will serve as the power of development for the Northeast. This will support the development of the entire region.

Talking to the media, Sonowal said that with the vision and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the states of Northeast have gained power to follow the path of development. It is quite good for the region to be organized.

He further said that the works done by PM Modi to bring peace in Northeast in the last 11 years are being seen today and Northeast is moving fast on the path of development.

Sonowal said that North-East is moving rapidly in many areas with road, connectivity, infrastructure.

Giving a new update on the Kaladan Multimodal project, he said that the Suttwe port of Myanmar has become operational and the movement is also going on from Haldia ports. However, some road work is going on, as soon as it is complete, Northeast will get connectivity easily through the Kaladan project.

Talking to the media, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that in the last 11 years, in the leadership of PM Modi, we are working for the development of Northeast. Today we have reached this situation that they are organizing such a big event.

He further said that industrialists from all over the country have come to this event and we hope that this summit will bring a big change in the Northeast region.

The ‘Rising Northeast Investor Summit’ was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this time he described the North East as the digital gateway of India. What is the planning of the Central Government regarding education and skill development ecosystem in North East and till now they have also worked on it.

PM Modi said, “In the last decade, 21,000 crore rupees have been invested on the North East Education System. Around 850 new schools have been constructed. 9 new medical colleges have been set up. The Indian Institute of Mass Communication campus has been set up in Mizoram. Around 200 new skill development institutes have been set up.”

The Prime Minister described the Northeast as a part of the country’s diversity. He said, “India makes a distinct identity in the form of the most diversions of the world and Northeast is the divers of this divers nation. From tradition to tradition, the diversity of the northeastern state from textile to tourism is its great force.”

He said that the country is on the path of becoming ‘developed India’ by 2047 and the development of Eastern India matters to fulfill this dream.
