Mumbai, March 22 (IANS). The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) informed that strict action has been taken against the missleed content (misleading material) on social media, more than 70,000 posts and accounts have been removed from October 2024 from SEBI.
This step has been taken by SEBI in the link to deal with misinformation and regulate online financial influencers.
The market regulator is working closely with the social media platform to ensure that no such content confuses any investor.
SEBI’s full -time member Anant Narayan gave information about these efforts of SEBI at the Association of Registered Investment Advisors (ARIA) Summit.
He said, “A common concern for all of us is associated with unregistered investment advisors/research analysts, who are taking wrong advantage of the increasing interest in investment.”
He said that under the proposal of SEBI, the use of UPI ‘perite’ handle will help investors to identify registered institutions easily, so that they can protect themselves from fraudsters.
Narayan said, “With the increasing interest in investment, the number of unregistered investment advisors and research analysts has also increased rapidly. These investment advisors and research analysts mislead investors.”
Narayan also announced that SEBI is planning a nationwide survey to better understand investors’ behavior and improve their outreach strategies.
On foreign investment, Narayan said, “India’s involvement in global date Indices has recorded an increase in foreign portfolio investors (FPI) debt flow and has improved investment mix.”
He said that attracting such investment is a positive sign for a developing country like India, but the country also needs to maintain strong economic development, financial stability and governance.
Meanwhile, the SEBI board is scheduled to hold its first meeting on 24 March under the leadership of the new chief Tuhin Kanta Pandey.
Market regulator can offer a settlement scheme for algorithm brokers and can be considered to increase the fee collection period for research analysts.
