Mumbai, Sensex and Nifty also opened weak in early trade on Friday due to weak trend in global markets, although after a few minutes they started trading in profit. During this, the 30-share BSE Sensex was down 414.44 points at 55,049.95 in early trade.
However, after a few minutes, it recovered from the loss and climbed 268.39 points to 55,732.78. Similarly, NSE Nifty fell 124 to 16,470.90 in early trade. But soon the buying started and it gained 70.70 points to 16,665.60. Tata Steel, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma and Bajaj Finserv were among the gainers in the Sensex pack, while Maruti Suzuki India, Nestle, Infosys and Wipro were among the losers.
In the previous session, the 30-share Sensex closed at 55,464.39, up 817.06 points, or 1.50 per cent, at the end of trading. Similarly, the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also closed at the level of 16,594.90 with a jump of 249.55 points or 1.53 percent. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude fell 0.36 per cent to $108.90 a barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,981.15 crore on a gross basis on Thursday, according to provisional data from the stock market.
