Mumbai, 23 March (IANS). Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited has received 25 tax demand notices from Goods and Services Tax (GST) Authorities of many states.
In these notices including fine, tax of Rs 49 crore has been demanded. All these tax notices have been issued to the company’s regional offices in Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka.
Officials have accused Star Health and Allied Insurance that the company has failed to pay GST on some transactions related to co-insurance.
Violations by the company include statutory documents not disclosing these transactions and failure to issue invoices for such services.
Star Health’s office in Haryana has received five tax demands worth Rs 4.9 crore. These orders were issued by the Additional Commissioner of GST and Central Excise in Gurugram.
Similarly, four tax demand notices of Rs 4.7 crore have been given to the company’s Delhi office. The maximum tax of Rs 19.4 crore has been demanded through five notices from the zonal office of Maharashtra.
These notices have been issued by GST officials of Mumbai East, Andheri East and Mumbai South-West. In Tamil Nadu, the company has received five tax notices of a total of Rs 16.2 crore from Chennai North GST office.
The Telangana office has also received five tax notices worth Rs 3.8 crore. At the same time, the Karnataka office has received a tax notice demanding Rs 12.8 lakh.
Star Health has said that based on the advice of the legal advisor, it will file an appeal to challenge these tax demand notices. The company is taking appropriate legal steps to resolve the matter.
Meanwhile, last month the company announced that it has expanded its home health care services at 100 places across India.
The initiative, launched in July 2023, now covers 85 percent of the Star Health Insurance customers, providing cashless medical services at their home.
