Transport Minister Anil Vij today said that the department is taking concrete steps to provide better facilities to passengers and employees. He inaugurated the canteen funded by ‘Hamari Aastha Foundation’ at Ambala Cantonment Bus Stand, which provides food to passengers and needy for 5 rupees. Vij said, “Our faith foundation is doing good work and more social organizations should come forward to help the needy. The government cannot do everything. If more organizations want to do so, then we will welcome them. ” He also announced to give Rs 5 lakh to the Foundation from his discretionary fund. He said, “Around 3 lakh passengers travel daily in Haryana Roadways, then there are drivers and other employees who work honestly and walk on long routes. Many measures are being taken to improve the position of Haryana Roadways and its bus depot. ” The Transport Minister said, “We have decided to develop rest house on national and state highways so that bus drivers and passengers can get quality food and they can rest for some time. About 80 percent of accidents are the reason behind accidents, as drivers do not get rest. It will take some time, but we are working in this direction. “” We are partnered with the Haryana Tourism Department to provide clean and healthy food at bus terminals. Initially, this initiative will be launched as a pilot project at five bus terminals including Ambala Cantonment, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and Hisar. When successful it will be extended to all bus terminals, “he said.
