Stock market closed in red mark before TCS results, Sensex drops 345 points

New Delhi, 10 July (IANS). The Indian stock market closed in a red mark in Thursday’s trading session. At the end of the day, the Sensex was down 345.80 points or 0.41 percent to 83,190.28 and the Nifty was 120.85 points or 0.47 percent to 25,355.25.

Along with largecap, midcap and smallcap stocks also saw selling. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was 179.65 points or 0.30 per cent, with 59,159.95 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index at 51.15 points or 0.27 per cent to 18,956.25 with a weakness of 0.27 per cent.

According to market experts, investors remain vigilant before the June quarter results of FY 26. In the evening, the results of the April-June period will be released by the IT giant TCS.

On sectoral basis, IT, Auto, PSU Bank, Financial Services, Pharma, FMCG, media, energy and private bank index closed with pressure. At the same time, metal and realty closed in green mark.

The Sensex packs were Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, Infosys, BEL, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, NTPC, HCL, Eternal and HUL top loosers. Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Trent and Tata Motors were the top gainers.

Vinod Nair, Research Head of Geojit Investments Limited, said, “Indian stock markets closed in red due to weakness in IT shares before the results of TCS. The Indian stock markets closed in red. The IT and Finance sector remains the trend of investors before the first quarter results due to the possibility of a slow start of this season.

He added, “There was a limited negative attitude in mid-cap and small-cap stocks, which reflects the strategy of weight and watch amid the increasing expectation of better income than large-cap stocks.”

The Indian stock market started flat due to mixed signals. At around 9.29 am, the Sensex was trading at 83,495.12 at 83,495.12 at around 9.29 am, while the Nifty was trading at 25,458.40 with a decline of 17.70 points or 0.07 percent.
