Swiggy Instamart on Wednesday removed non -veg items including eggs, meat and fish for delivery in selected cities like Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad on the occasion of ‘Mahashivratri’. That is, people of these cities could not order non -veg products at Swiggi Instamart. These products were not visible in the app of this Quick Commerce platform. However, delivery was restored by evening in some cities.
What is the reason?
Sources said that the decision to remove non -vegetarian products from the list of delivery materials at some places was taken to honor religious sentiments. Because Swiggi Instamart is delivering the holy Tandul Mahaprasad Laddus directly from the Sri Kashi Vishwanath Temple on Mahashivratri.
Some users objected on social media
Meanwhile, some users resorted to social media platform X to object to the move and shared screenshots of removing non-veg items such as meat, fish and eggs from the grossary segment on Swigy Instamart. On ‘Mahashivaratri’, only the tandul Mahaprasad laddus available at Swigi Instamart are the same laddus that are served in the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
What did the company say?
The company said that Swigi Instamart will deliver these laddus to devotees in 40 cities of Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Goa and Madhya Pradesh. Amitesh Jha, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Swiggi Instamart, said, “Mahashivratri is a time of deep devotion and we have the privilege of bringing this spiritual experience in our users’ homes.” On this auspicious occasion, Tandul Mahaprasad is very important for the devotees and we are making these sacred offerings much easier than ever to get these sacred offerings without compromising the authenticity. ”
