New Delhi, 21 April (IANS). The total number of broadband subscribers in India has increased to 94.5 crore in January, which was 94.4 crore in December. This information was given by the government on Monday.
The broadband segment consists of both wired and wireless users. The slight increase has been mainly due to mobile broadband users, whose number has increased from 89.8 crores to 89.9 crore in December.
The country’s top five broadbands (wired and wireless) companies have 98.43 percent market share.
Bharti Airtel has 28.9 million users. Vodafone Idea has 12.6 crore subscribers.
At the same time, BSNL and Atriya Convergence Technologies have 3.57 crore and 22 lakh customers respectively.
Airtel has 85 million users in the wired segment. BSNL has 42 lakh customers. At the same time, Atria has 2.2 million subscribers and 1.2 million users of Kerala Vision Broadband.
The report stated that these five companies jointly have 67.67 percent market share in the fixed broadband segment.
Mobile and fixed wireless broadband subscriptions have seen different trends. The number of mobile broadband subscriptions in December increased from 89.8 crores to 89.9 crore in January.
The number of fixed wireless broadband users during the review period was 49 lakhs.
The telecom report also states that 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) customers, which were earlier counted under the wireline, have now been included in the wireless category.
This increased the number of wireless users, which increased from 115.06 crores in December to 115.7 crore in January.
In addition, in January, more than 1.41 crore users chose the option of mobile number portability (MNP), which has reached 109.33 crore, the total number of MNP requests since the convenience started.
