New Delhi, May 29 (IANS). According to the central government’s telecom subscription data, the total number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,200.80 million to 1,203.84 million in April in April, which reflects an increase of 0.25 percent on a monthly basis.
The number of urban telephone subscribers rose from 666.11 million to 667.19 million in late March in late March. During the same period, the number of rural subscribers also increased from 534.69 million to 536.65 million.
The Ministry of Communications said that the monthly growth rate of urban and rural telephone subscribers during April was 0.16 percent and 0.37 percent respectively.
The total wireless (mobile and 5GFA) subscribers in April increased from 1,163.76 million to 1,166.43 million, which records an increase of 0.23 percent on a monthly basis.
According to the data, the total wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 632.57 million to 633.29 million, while during the same period the subscription in rural areas increased from 531.18 million to 533.14 million.
Urban and rural wireless subscription monthly growth rates have been recorded at 0.11 percent and 0.37 percent respectively.
The total tele-density increased from 85.04 percent to 85.19 percent in late April at the end of March.
Urban telecommunications density increased from 131.45 percent to 131.46 percent in late April in late March. During the same period, rural telecom density also increased from 59.06 percent to 59.26 percent.
According to the data, till April 30, 92.08 percent market share of wireless subscribers was with private access service providers, while two PSU access service provider, BSNL and MTNL had market share of only 7.92 percent.
Bharti Airtel Limited has the highest number of machine-to-machine (M2M) cellular mobile connections, which have a market share of 53.35 percent, followed by Vodafone Idea Limited.
In April, 13.48 million subscribers submitted a request for mobile number portability (MNP).
