Ahmedabad, 8 June (IANS). Recognized as the world’s largest container ship, ‘MSc Irina’ will arrive at the Vizhinjam International Port of Adani Group on Monday and will stand there till Tuesday. Depending on the TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) capacity, it is the largest ship.
This memorable arrival is an important milestone for the port, which was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 May.
The capacity of ‘MSc Irina’ is 24,346 TEU, which gives it an important place in global shipping.
Its length is 399.9 meters and width is 61.3 meters. The ship is about four times longer than a standard football ground recognized by Fifad.
Specifically designed to facilitate the transportation of containers between Asia and Europe, ‘MSc Irina’ is important in increasing business routes and logistic capacity.
The ship is coming to a South Asian port for the first time, which will highlight the abilities of the incomparable to handle the ultra-loader vessels (ULCV).
Developed and operated by Adani Ports and SEZ Limited, this port has recently welcomed other prestigious category ships including MSc Turkas and MSc Michelle Capelini, which further strengthened its reputation as a major center in maritime trade.
‘MSc Irina’ was launched in March 2023 and its first visit began in April the same year. Operated with Liberian flags, this ship is designed to stack high containers up to 26 tier, which provides unmatched capacity in container stacking.
In particular, ‘MSc Irina’ has overtaken its predecessor, ‘OOCL Spain’ by a margin of 150 TEUs.
In line with contemporary environmental standards, the ship is equipped with energy-saving facilities that contribute to a reduction of carbon emissions by up to four percent. The operations significantly reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.
Docking of MSc Irina at Vizhinjam International Port not only underlines the strategic importance of the port in global shipping, but also represents a jump in sustainable marine practices, which installs a benchmark for future development in the industry.
