Maharashtra has topped the list of states that attracted the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) during the first quarter of the current financial year 2024-2025. According to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Maharashtra continues to be the number one state among other states as it received FDI worth Rs 70,795 crore in the first quarter of April to June 2024-25. According to IANS, neighbouring state Karnataka stood second by attracting an investment of Rs 19,059 crore.
Delhi is at number three and Gujarat at number five
According to the news, Delhi stood third with Rs 10,788 crore, Telangana fourth with Rs 9,023 crore, Gujarat fifth with Rs 8,508 crore, Tamil Nadu sixth with Rs 5,818 crore, Uttar Pradesh eighth with Rs 370 crore and Rajasthan ninth with Rs 311 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis posted on social media platform X on Friday – Congratulations Maharashtra! Very good news!! Foreign investment in Maharashtra alone accounts for 52.46 percent of total investment in the country!!!” He said the investment attracted by Maharashtra is the highest and much higher than other states.

“To summarise, the total investment in the country during this quarter is Rs 1,34,959 crore, of which Rs 70,795 crore or 52.46 per cent is reported in Maharashtra alone,” Fadnavis said. The BJP leader said Maharashtra has received FDI worth Rs 12,35,101 crore in 2023-24 which is more than Gujarat and Gujarat and Karnataka combined. Moreover, Maharashtra has attracted FDI worth Rs 1,18,422 crore in 2022-23 which is more than Karnataka, Delhi and Gujarat combined.
How much investment from 2014 to 2019
Fadnavis said a total of Rs 3,62,161 crore worth of foreign investment came to Maharashtra during the BJP-led government under his tenure as chief minister from 2014 to 2019.
The DPIIT data has come as a big relief to the Mahayuti government, especially when the Maha Vikas Aghadi has been stepping up its attack on the government over the flight of capital and investment to Gujarat and other states during its rule.
The MVA’s criticism was due to the loss to other states from the Rs 1.80 lakh crore Vedanta-Foxconn project, Tata Airbus manufacturing plant, GAIL’s 1.5 million tonne per annum ethane cracking unit built with an investment of Rs 50,000 crore at Sehore in Madhya Pradesh.
