Attari, 17 May (IANS). After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, the trade between the two countries came to a complete standstill, but from Friday, business activities have started again via the Attari-Wagah border.
With the introduction of business activities via the Attari-Wagah border, there has been great relief to the traders for whom this route is a major source of import of dry fruits and herbs.
In fact, the Attari-Wagah border was closed due to the increased tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack. During this time, about 50 trucks were stuck on the Wagha border towards Pakistan, who were coming from Afghanistan to India with dry fruits and herbs. According to the Integrated Checkpost (ICP) Attari and Custom Department officials, the trucks coming on Friday were the same as stressed in the Pakistani border due to tension. On Friday, six of these trucks were allowed to enter India via Attari Checkpost.
At the same time, on Saturday, more than 10 Indian trucks entered the integrated checkpost attic, which will be loaded and will again leave in different states of the country. Traders are happy with the commencement of business relations between India and Afghanistan.
This route of trade between India and Afghanistan is very important. The Attari-Wagah border is the only sanctioned trade land route between India and Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. India imports dry fruits and herbs mainly from Afghanistan, mostly from Kandahar and Kabul. The closure of this route not only caused economic loss to traders, but also affected the availability of these goods in the market.
