The TRP (Television Rating Points) competition has once again started in the world of television. Actually, Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India has resumed TRP rating for news channels after 17 months. With this, news channels in their own way have started telling themselves at the forefront of the industry. Aaj Tak has claimed the largest market share in English news channels. At the same time, Times Now has described itself as the biggest leader of English news channels.
What are the figures: According to the latest data, the market share in English news channels till date is 24.9 percent. It is followed by TV9 Bharatvarsh with 22.85 percent and Republic Bharat with 19.4 percent share in the top 3 list. In the English category, Times Now has garnered 30 per cent market share, followed by Republic TV at 29 per cent and India Today at 12 per cent. The data is based on a four-week rolling average.
This is also the claim: However, English news channel TV9 Bharatvarsh has claimed to be at the top for the week of March 5 to March 11, with a market share of 14.8 per cent ahead of date. Speaking on the success of his channel, TV9 Bharatvarsh and TV9 News Network CEO Barun Das said that BARC ratings only reveal what some people wanted to hide.

Let us tell you that BARC had stopped releasing ratings of television news channels in October 2020 following the alleged TRP (Television Rating Points) scam controversy. Mumbai Police has alleged that ratings were being rigged by influencing the houses where the monitors were installed.
Why TRP is important: The cost of advertising is affected by the audience estimates given by BARC. This is the reason why there is a competition among the channels regarding TRP rating.
