New Delhi, 8 June (IANS). Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there has been a big change in the country’s agriculture sector in the last 11 years. On the one hand, the government has increased the budget five times for the agricultural sector and on the other hand the minimum support price (MSP) of crops like wheat and paddy has doubled the farmers.
According to government data, the budget of the agricultural sector has increased five times in the last five years to Rs 1,37,664 crore in FY 2024-25, which was Rs 27,663 crore in FY 2013-14. This has helped in promoting infrastructure, innovation and farmer welfare in the agriculture sector.
With this, the Modi government has been successful in doubling the MSP for farmers in the last 11 years. The MSP for wheat has increased to Rs 2,425 per quintal in FY 2024-25, which was Rs 1,400 per quintal in FY 2013-14. At the same time, MSP for paddy has increased to Rs 2,369 per quintal in FY 2024-25, which was Rs 1,310 per quintal in FY 2013-14.
Between 2014 and 2025, the purchase of 14 kharif crops reached 7,871 lakh metric tons (LMT), while it was 4,679 LMT in the last decade.
Apart from this, due to the efforts of the government, there has been a lot of progress in the country’s food production in the last decade. The food production has increased from 265.05 million tonnes to 2024-25 in the food production 2014-15 to 347.44 million tonnes. This includes major food products such as rice, wheat, pulses and oilseeds. The focus has also been focused on increasing the production of climate-friendly and nutrition-rich crops, with a sharp increase in production for coarse grains, pulses and oilseeds.
There has been financial empowerment of farmers at the center of the Modi government. Under the PM-Kisan Yojana, Rs 3.7 lakh crore has been transferred directly to more than 11 crore farmers, ensuring income assistance with full transparency through direct profit transfer. 7.71 crore farmers have been issued Kisan Credit Cards, due to which loan of Rs 10 lakh crore has been distributed among the farmers. The loan limit on Kisan Credit Card has been increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
