New Delhi, March 31 (IANS). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is organizing the 21st DP Kohli memorial lecture on the occasion of its 62nd Foundation Day on 1 April 2025. On this occasion, Rail, Information and Broadcasting and Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will give DP Kohli memorial lecture at Bharat Mandapam, the theme ‘Developed India @ 2047 – A roadmap for CBI’.
On this occasion, the Union Minister will also provide the CBI officials for the CBI officials for the Special Service, the President Police Medal (PPM) and the Police Medal (PM) for commendable service. The CBI pays tribute to its founding director late Dharmanath Prasad Kohli and DP since 2000. Kohli has been organizing a memorial lecture.
Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1907, Dharmanath Prasad Kohli was a special career in the Indian police. After joining the police service in 1931, he served in UP, then Central India and Government of India. From July 1955 to March 1963, he was the head of DSPE. After the formation of the Central Bureau of Investigation on 1 April 1963, DP Kohli became its founding director and remained its director from 1963 to May 31, 1968, till his retirement.
In this lecture series, prestigious speakers and veterans from different regions participate and share their experiences on relevant topics. The purpose of this lecture series is to promote dialogue, share knowledge and advance the understanding of challenges and solutions in the field of law enforcement, criminal justice system and criminal investigation.
DP Kohli memorial lecture is important as a tribute to DP Kohli’s approach in establishing the CBI as a major investigating agency. It also underlines the agency’s commitment to maintain honesty, accountability and excellence in the operations contained by the CBI in the fairness and integrity.
The Central Bureau of Investigation was established by a proposal by the Government of India, the purpose was to investigate cases of bribery and corruption. Also, violations of central financial laws, gathering subsidiary intelligence besides serious crimes were also included in the works of Central Bureau of Investigation.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has emerged as a major investigating agency in the country over the last six decades, which also covers the crimes of emerging new era such as cyber financial offenses, online CSAM (child sexual abuse material). CBI also coordinates international cooperation in enforcement in India as a National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India.
