New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has processed transactions worth over Rs 81 lakh crore in the April-July period, registering a growth of 37 per cent on an annual basis, according to a report.
The latest data released by global payments hub PaySecure states that 3,729.1 transactions are taking place per second through UPI. In 2022, this figure was 2,348 transactions per second. During this period, an increase of 58 percent has been seen in transactions through UPI.
According to the data, India is far ahead of China’s Alipay, America’s PayPal and Brazil’s Pix in terms of the number of UPI transactions.
In July, a total of Rs 20.6 lakh crore worth of transactions were done through UPI. This is the largest figure of UPI transactions ever recorded. Apart from this, the total value of transactions done through UPI has remained above Rs 20 lakh crore for three consecutive months.
This data has been released by PaySecure after examining 40 of the top alternative payment methods across the world.
According to PaySecure’s data, India is at the top in terms of digital transactions in the world. Around 40 percent of the transactions here are done digitally. People are using UPI the most for making digital payments.
Dilip Asbe, CEO of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), said that with credit growth, the number of transactions through UPI is likely to reach 100 billion in the next 10 to 15 years.
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has said that our focus is to take UPI and Rupay card to the global level. Positive response has been received for this from abroad as well.
Speaking at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai this week, he said taking UPI abroad, enabling merchants to accept payments through UPI QR code internationally, and linking UPI with faster payment systems of other countries for cross border payments are our top priorities.
