There is big news for UPI users. If your mobile number linked to the bank has been inactive for a long time, then get it active immediately. If you do not do so, you will not be able to use UPI from April 1. In fact, to prevent forgery, a new rule related to UPI Payment Service will be applicable from April 1. Under this, banks and payment service providers (PSPs) will have to update their database before 31 March to remove inactive or changed mobile numbers. Under this, banks will remove the inactive mobile number from their database by 31 March. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has directed to use the mobile number revolving list (MNRL) available on Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) to prevent fraud. After this, the use of UPI connected to inactive mobiles will stop.
It is necessary to update a record once a week
NPCI has made it mandatory for banks and UPI apps like Googlepe and PhonePe to update mobile number records at least once a week. Companies offering UPI service will have to use MNRL or Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) to identify and remove suspects.
Whose UPI can be closed?
If the mobile number has changed and there is no update with the bank, then such users will not be able to use UPI. Those who have deactivated their number without updating to the bank. They will not be able to use UPI. Inactive mobile numbers which have not been used for services like calls, SMS etc. will be removed from the UPI network.
How to avoid this?
Ensure that mobile numbers related to bank account are active. If not, they should be activated as soon as possible. Users update their mobile number with a bank account connected to UPI. If any mobile number related to the UPI ID is inactive, then UPI users can get a new number to avoid the closure of services before 1 April.
