Indian-origin Raj Subramaniam will be the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American courier services company FedEx. FedEx issued a statement on Monday announcing Subramaniam’s appointment, saying he would replace the company’s chairman and current CEO Frederick W Smith. The new appointment will be effective from June 1. However, Smith will continue to be associated with the company as executive chairman.
Smith expressed hope for the Subramaniam-led FedEx to reach new heights of success, saying he is pleased to hand over the leadership. Smith founded FedEx in 1971. It has over six lakh employees worldwide.

On the other hand, Subramaniam said that it was a great honor for him to be appointed as the CEO of FedEx, and said that I will try to take the organization which Smith has worked hard to make it one of the world’s prestigious companies, in this new role. Subramaniam was inducted into the FedEx board in 2020 and will continue to be a director even after becoming CEO. Prior to this, he served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx Corp.
Subramaniam is from Kerala: The new CEO of FedEx, Subramaniam is originally from the city of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Bombay. He is a post graduate in the same subject from Syracuse University. 54-year-old Subramaniam has studied MBA from the University of Texas.
