New Delhi, 15 April (IANS). The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation in India has come down to 2.05 percent in March, which was 2.38 percent in February. This information was given by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the prices of manufacturing products are due to the positive wholesale inflation being positive in March.
In March, inflation has decreased by 0.19 percent in March compared to 2025, which shows a decrease in inflation.
According to government data, there has been a decrease in the price of fuel and energy groups in March compared to February, causing a decline in wholesale inflation in March.
Last week, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced the monetary policy to reduce the estimate of inflation from 4.2 percent to 4 percent for FY 2025-26.
The RBI Governor said that after a sharp fall in food inflation, the main inflation has decreased during January-February 2025. Uncertainties about rabi crops have reduced to a great extent and other advance estimates are pointing to record wheat production and greater production of major pulses than the previous year.
He further said that with a strong incoming kharif, it is expected to bring permanent softening in food inflation.
The RBI Governor further said that the decline in crude oil prices is auspicious sign for the outlook of inflation. Keeping in mind all these factors and following the normal monsoon, retail inflation for FY 2025-26 is expected to be at 4 percent, with the first quarter 3.6 percent, the second quarter 3.9 percent, the third quarter 3.8 percent and the fourth quarter 4.4 percent.
